Program
The Toler Library has been named the Jane S. Davis Library in honor of our former principal (1990-2003). The library program focuses on helping students acquire: literacy skills, technology skills, critical thinking skills, and an appreciation of and love for good literature. The program emphasizes the use of literature and information in all its various formats. The program also strives to meet the needs of student's individual learning styles, interests, and languages. Students visit the library both during scheduled weekly class visits and on a drop-in basis.
Collection
The library collection includes resources in a variety of formats. In addition to a large print collection, there are also book/cassette kits, sound recordings, videos, computer software, and full Internet access with an online database. Some of these items are available only for adult and teachers to check out, while others are offered to students. There are approximately 9,000 titles in our collection.
Facilities and Equipment
The Toler Library was constructed during the 2003-2004 school year using the Prop. MM funds. It opened its door to the school community in September 2004. The library is fully carpeted, has overhead ceiling fans, a storytelling area, tables and seating for 36 students, and a state-of-the-art four computer workstation. Students use the automated card catalog to locate materials and the circulation system is fully automated. All computers are connected to the district network and have Internet access.
